SUMMARY:Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the US - Classification Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the US (HTSUS) Classification Workshop Workshop OverviewAll goods and materials presented for entry into the Customs Territory of the United States must be classified (i.e.\, categorized according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of The United States (HTSUS). The process of determining a good's or material's proper placement within the HTSUS nomenclature is called classification. Classification determines not only how much duty will be collected by Customs and Border Protection (CBP)\, but may also dictate the Rules Of Origin for duty preference programs eligibility such as NAFTA and GSP. Proper classification involves more than simply looking up an item in an index. Accurate classification involves a complicated process of applying the HTS\, General Rules of Interpretation\, the Legal Notes and additional Explanatory Notes. For Exporters references to determine Schedule B numbers are very limited\, however\, the same tools and methodology used for classification of imports are very helpful in determining HTSUS Schedule B for outbound shipments. This two-day workshop will expose participants to the classification process through an examination of:* The structure of the HTSUS* The Legal Text of the Harmonized System* Heading and Subheading provisions* Section\, Chapter\, Additional U.S.\, Statistical and Subheading Notes* The General Rules of Interpretation (GRI's)* The Classification of Sets* Provisions for parts and accessories* Classification strategies* The Explanatory Notes* HTSUS / AES list for Exporters The workshop will be interactive. Key concepts will be supported with numerous examples and participants will be presented with hands-on classification exercises. For more information\, please contact Irina Kobzeva-Pavlovic at (816) 235-6654 or at info@itckc.org.Click here to register Please note: Certificates of participation are issued for all workshops. The above topics\, speakers and information may be applicable toward continuing education units through various professional certification programs. Please check with your program administrator for qualifications.
