  • What is a Naturalization Ceremony and What to Expect: The Oath of Allegiance to the United States is a sworn declaration that every citizenship applicant must recite during a formal ceremony in order to become a naturalized American citizen. The Oath ceremony is a tradition dating back to the 18th century. When taking the Oath, the new citizen promises to fulfill the following duties:
    • Support and defend the U.S. Constitution and the laws of the United States against its enemies.
    • Give up allegiance to any other nation or sovereign, and renounce hereditary or noble titles, if any.
    • Provide military or civilian service when called upon by the government to do so.
  • What We’ll Witness: Attending the Oath of Allegiance ceremony is mandatory as the final step of the naturalization process. You must satisfy this requirement of U.S. citizenship in order to naturalize and become a U.S. citizen.
  • Parking: Lot on Baltimore, across the street from the KC Library. Note: The Library will validate parking. Parking fills up fast, so please plan to arrive at the recommended arrival time.
    NOTE:
  •  Bring Kleenex if you get emotional at Weddings, as many people tear up when they play the Star Spangled Banner and the new US Citizens pledge their allegiance to our country.
  •  They will have a photographer taking a group picture of the Centurions to commemorate the event.
Please RSVP by 12:00 PM on Friday, November, 1st so we can send our RSVP numbers.
Location:
Location: Kansas City Library, Floor 1 in Kirk Hall. They have set up a special area in the West Mezzanine for Centurions, so we can view the ceremony above the crowd. There is a reception afterwards on Floor 5 to celebrate, which all Centurions are invited to attend. You can enter through the café or main entrance. There is no cost for this event.
Date/Time Information:
Time/Date: November 5, 2019 from 10:30AM – 11:45AM. The ceremony has a planned start of 11:00, but will start once the judge takes his seat (this is also when they close the doors and court is in session). The Library recommends arriving between 10:30 and 10:45 so we don’t disrupt the ceremony. The ceremony will last no longer than 45 minutes and will adjourn by 11:45 AM.
